It’s finally time to look ahead to a new year of interior design and reflect on the trends we think will follow us into the year. Predicting trends is, of course, not an exact science, but it’s a fun way to brainstorm at the start of the year. Naturally, I did the same last year, and you can read that post here.
How do I feel about last year’s predicted trends? They all emerged quite prominently! The one I’ve seen the least in private homes is probably burl wood, but wood remains trendy going into 2025, so I don’t think its time is over yet. In addition to these, we’ve also seen a lot of color drenching—immersing a home in bold colors to achieve striking visual effects—which is a trend I’d love to see more of in 2025.
But what other trends do I think we’ll see this year? Let’s take a look.
Wood
Wood is here to stay.
Working with wood-on-wood is a trend I truly appreciate. The natural warmth that wood brings to a room is remarkable. Incorporating organic and natural materials is always a key element in creating a cozy and personal vibe in all my interior designs. Going even deeper into this, inspired by the return of 60s and 70s interiors, is more than welcome!
Browns
We’ve seen brown emerging since fall 2024, and it’s a shade that tends to resurface almost every autumn as a seasonal color. However, brown is predicted to take an even bigger role in 2025. In fact, the color experts at Pantone have chosen a brown shade – Mocha Mousse – as the Color of the Year.
While this particular hue is a lighter brown, I believe all shades of brown fit into this trend. Since brown is a natural color, it’s easy to work with and creates a sense of comfort in our environments. I’m definitely planning to explore brown more in 2025 – I think my bedroom might get a brown makeover!
Soft, playful shapes
Decorating with only angular shapes? Not in 2025.
Flowing, playful shapes are taking center stage, softening interiors and creating a more dynamic, lively impression. Personally, I love this trend and prefer to mix both soft and hard shapes in all my designs to achieve balance.
Explore rounded furniture, mirrors, frames, cushion shapes, and more to embrace this trend!
Maximalism
The More, the Merrier?
It seems that maximalist homes are getting a lot of love right now. But this trend isn’t necessarily about buying as many things as possible – it’s more about daring to create your own style and expressing it boldly. As we become increasingly individualistic, showcasing your unique style remains as relevant as ever – especially in your home.
Feeling tempted to go all out but haven’t quite taken the leap? Let 2025 be the year you embrace your bold side! And don’t forget to shop second-hand if you need to add a few extra touches to your space.
Color and Pattern
As we move into 2025, the exploration of color and pattern in our homes continues to grow. After years dominated by white, gray, and later beige interiors, many are yearning for more vibrant hues and exciting patterns. The truth is, color impacts how we feel and can have positive effects on our well-being. I believe this is a key reason why color has gained such momentum. In a world where we need uplifting elements to improve our mood, color has become an essential tool – something we especially noticed after COVID-19, when more color began to find its way into our homes.
I’m also excited to continue exploring patterns in 2025. This was a trend I highlighted for 2024, and it’s clearly here to stay. Over the past year, we’ve seen everything from animal prints – leopard evolving into zebra – to botanical and geometric patterns.
One thing is certain: patterns are coming with us into 2025.
