Jasper’s Love for Design Transformed His Home

Meet Jasper, a graphic designer with a passion that transcends the digital world, infusing his home with the same creative flair he brings to his work. Jasper and his family live in the “White House,” located in the heart of the Netherlands. What started as an enthusiasm for graphic design has evolved into a love for interior design, manifesting in their home and beyond into Jasper’s online platform for design enthusiasts, designweb.nl.

In this post, Jasper generously shares his journey to creating her current home and some of his best tips. Enjoy!

It all origins of a design passion

Jasper’s journey into interior design began organically.

– Since 2009, we have our own advertising agency where I work as a graphic designer. That’s why I’ve always been involved in design. As a designer, you feel like you have to design everything, but with this, it has been wonderful to not only create design but also to live in it.

For Jasper, designing a home is a process, not a rush to the finish line which I totally agree on. He believes in letting the interior evolve over time, just like a personal story. His advice to others is simple yet powerful:

Start with the colors in your home. We actually have a lot of white in our house – a bright white cast floor, but also plenty of color. Step by step, the interior becomes more personal if you let it grow with time.

It’s this philosophy that has allowed Jasper to create a space that feels warm and inviting, while also maintaining a sense of openness and calm.

Balancing functionality and style

Jasper’s eye for design extends to practical considerations as well. In a world where technology often clashes with decor, he’s found creative ways to integrate it seamlessly.

– A TV is often not a beautiful object in the home. So, what’s the best solution? A design TV. Jasper explains.

He’s chosen a Serif TV with a dark blue frame, designed by the Bouroullec brothers, and painted the wall behind it to match.

– Now the TV barely stands out, he says. Similarly, Jasper’s workspace blends into the background.

We also painted the inside of the cabinet black, so now the screen blends in.

These thoughtful choices ensure that practicality doesn’t come at the expense of aesthetics. And I’m in love with the outcome, such a great tip.

Timeless design with colorful details

When it comes to adding color, Jasper has a keen sense for balancing vibrancy with timelessness.

– For us, it’s about not using too many ‘bright’ colors on the walls. Our house is white, both inside and out, he notes. Instead, he opts for “dark or muted” shades, like the deep blue downstairs or the green in the bedroom. The result is a home where color accents enhance rather than overwhelm, creating a harmonious, enduring atmosphere.

Essential elements for a harmonious home

Jasper’s interior style is defined by a mix of design classics and thoughtful lighting. Among his favorite pieces are vintage icons like the Orange Slice Chair and the Egg Chair from 1960.

These iconic furniture pieces not only bring color but also character to the space, he says. Lighting, too, plays a key role in setting the mood. Good lighting really makes a difference and can bring an interior to life.

Jasper believes it’s the combination of striking pieces and ambient lighting that transforms a space into a home.

Finding inspiration and unique pieces

Jasper’s online platform, designweb.nl, is, of course his go-to resource for finding unique pieces. The platform even allows users to set price alerts, notifying them when a desired item reaches a certain price point.

A new update also integrates second-hand design finds from sites like Whoppah and Catawiki.

Beyond the digital world, Jasper draws inspiration from Instagram, including Danish Homedeco of course! 🙂

I’m so happy Jasper wanted to share his home here on danishhomedeco.com, keep following Jasper and his home journey on social media in the link below.
